Open Textbooks: Access, Affordability and Academic Success

This presentation by David Ernst of the University of Minnesota and the Open Textbook Network provides a great overview of the rationale and background behind the UK Open Textbook Project.  The impact of high textbook costs is assessed, with several models of production and distribution compared (including the affordances of open licensing).  The presentation explores some of the research that has been done into the efficacy of open textbooks and the impact of adoption.  It concludes with some practical advice on getting involved in the process of selecting, reviewing, adapting and adopting open textbooks.
